Early Intervention Services

Addiction doesn’t happen overnight. It often begins as people experiment with drugs or alcohol and partake recreationally, but over time, changes in the brain occur that can lead to a greater need to use. This gradually increases until an individual becomes dependent and unable to function without being high or drunk, leading to a battle with addiction. Unfortunately, too many people wait until their loved one reaches this point before taking action. Strive’s early intervention services can help curb substance abuse in the beginning stages and prevent it from escalating. By addressing drug and alcohol use before it gets out of control, Strive can help you or your loved one understand the consequences of addiction and empower them to make the necessary changes for a healthy, sober life.

What are Early Intervention Services?

Early intervention services are a precursor to rehab designed to help those who are abusing drugs or alcohol but don’t meet the diagnostic criteria for a substance use disorder. Early intervention services have been shown to be effective in reducing or eliminating substance abuse and delaying the onset of severe symptoms in at-risk individuals, providing critical support with a range of evidence-based services. To accomplish this, early intervention services are designed to help clients and their families achieve the following:

  • Assess the severity of their substance use
  • Increase chemical dependency education and awareness
  • Recognize the harmful effects of drug or alcohol abuse
  • Identify risk factors and how to manage them
  • Develop strong coping skills
  • Learn how to handle peer pressure
  • Improve one’s readiness to change

When it comes to substance use, it’s never too soon to intervene. Don’t wait for you or your loved one to hit “rock bottom” — the longer you wait, the harder it is to treat as the mind and body become dependent. With the support and guidance of the professionals at Strive, early intervention services can help you or your loved one get back on track and prevent the pain and suffering of addiction before it has a chance to take hold.

Who is a Good Candidate for Early Intervention Services?

Early intervention services are geared toward clients who don’t meet the diagnostic requirement for a substance use disorder but may become dependent if steps aren’t taken to address the problem. At this stage, intensive residential or outpatient programs are probably not appropriate, but behavioral changes and drug abuse education are needed to prevent further harm from continued substance use. Early intervention services are often recommended for those who:

  • Don’t exhibit diagnostic criteria for a substance use disorder
  • Are concerned about their ability to control their substance use
  • Are actively experimenting with drugs or alcohol
  • Have a predisposition to addiction due to known risk factors
  • Have recently been convicted of a DUI/DWI
  • Are mentally and emotionally stable

At Strive, our counselors work with organizations, employers, adults, teens, and their families to assess at-risk individuals and provide them with the skills, knowledge and resources they need to proactively address their substance abuse. If you or someone you love is going down a road that could lead to addiction, these services can produce the positive changes that steer them toward a life free of drug or alcohol abuse.
